Roller coaster weather conditions have made fishing marginal at best. If your trying to pick and choose your days to get out on the water- good luck, the window of opportunity has been narrow. For those who have been brave enough to face the elements there have been fish to catch however.

  Cold Air, Warm Trout

It has just required changing tactics and approaches to adjust with the conditions.

Our primary catches recently has consisted of trout, redfish, flounder, and sheepshead. Live shrimp has been the bait of choice for all four species while artificial lures have accounted for a fair share of the first three on the list.

On the rare occasion that the winds have been down we've been able to fish open grass flats and drift for trout or venture to rock piles in the bay for sheepshead. Most days with high winds and chilly air temperatures has found us hiding in the protection of residential canals where it's been more comfortable for both us and the fish.

  Sheep

The good news is that there are still fish to catch after the widespread kill that occurred a few weeks ago. Even better news is that several healthy populations of snook have been observed from all around the entire bay area.
